Research Associate Position at The University of South Florida

Position: The School of Architecture and Community Design (SACD) and its research center, the Florida Center for Community Design and Research seeks a Research Associate, position #13682, a 9 month, full-time non-tenure track faculty position with teaching and community engagement experience. The position begins August 7, 2017.

The mission of the Florida Center is to assist the citizens of Florida in the creation of more livable and sustainable communities. The Florida Center is an interdisciplinary research center within the School of Architecture and Community Design and was founded as a statewide research center to address urban and regional design issues related to both natural and built environments. The Florida Center, in collaboration with SACD has a 30 year history of providing design expertise, technical assistance, community engagement, and applied research to assist Florida’s growing communities.

Salary: Competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Minimum Qualifications: A Master’s degree from an accredited institution with demonstrated record of academic research achievement, or professional qualifications in the field of specialization above those which would be equivalent to the highest degree are required. Qualifications include: a Master’s degree in Architecture, Landscape Architecture, or Urban Design; experience teaching design studio in a professional architecture degree program; the interest and ability to develop and teach courses which emphasize the integration of service learning and community engagement; evidence of outstanding design skills; evidence of successful sponsored projects within a university setting; transdisciplinary professional practice experience, and experience managing projects.

Preferred Qualifications: Evidence of successful design studio teaching and other research achievements. Interest and ability to teach courses that involve community engagement/service–learning. Evidence of successful management and completion of sponsored projects within a university setting. PhD or terminal degree in one of the disciplines offered by the SACD and five to ten years of experience in design research and/or practice directly related to one (or more) of the disciplines within the SACD.
Duties: The Research Associate position within the School of Architecture and Community Design will work in collaboration with the Florida Center for Community Design and Research. The position requires 50% time for teaching studio and/or elective courses, and 50% time working on sponsored research projects under the Director of the Florida Center or other Principle Investigator.
Responsibilities of the position include: 1) teaching (Teaching duties are assigned by the School of Architecture and Community Design, but may be in coordination with the Florida Center depending on the nature of the course such as a sponsored studio. 2) engagement with the professional and public community through the Florida Center, 3) developing and undertaking outreach and service-learning initiatives in coordination with the Florida Center and the School.
