The College of Architecture at Texas Tech University is under new administration and in the process of forming a renewed vision.  The College has just received an eight-year accreditation from the NAAB and expects to add a significant number of new faculty in the immediate future, including a Chair of Instruction, a specialist in Digital Design and Fabrication, and faculty for design studios.

It is expected that successful candidates will develop a strong research agenda through internal and external funding opportunities, and will serve communities, the College, and the University.

Texas Tech is located in the wide-open expanses of the American Southwest and its unique cultural and physical landscape with proximity to the artistic mecca of Marfa, Texas where the College is establishing a growing presence.  In addition to its Lubbock facility the College has centers in Houston and El Paso. It also conducts a robust study abroad program in several countries including Korea, Italy, France and at the University’s facility in Seville, Spain.

The University enrolls more than 30,000 students, more than 500 of whom chose architecture as their major. The College of Architecture graduates students through the B.S. Architecture, professional M. Architecture, M.S. Architecture, and an interdisciplinary Ph.D. in Land­Use Planning, Management, and Design (LPMD). Specializations in M.S. are offered in Digital Design & Fabrication, Urban & Community Design, and Design & Health. Moreover, Graduate Certificates in Digital Design and Fabrication, Health Care Facilities Design, Health and Wellness Design, Historic Preservation, and Urban and Community Design are also offered.

The college has been expanding its facilities and will break ground in spring 2017 for a 1.2-million-dollar addition to its shop facilities. The shops are currently equipped with two CNC machines, three Laser cutting machines, eight 3-D printers, two large format powder-based machines, one ABS machine, and a 6-axis Fanuc Robotic Arm. Also, the model shop has a desktop-scale CNC wire bending machine, a 4’x4’ Industrial scale vacuum former, and a KNK Maxx Blade Cutter.

Qualifications

The successful candidate must hold a terminal degree in architecture at the time of application.  Preference will be given to applicants with several of these additional qualifications:

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in a related field
  • Demonstrated effectiveness as a design studio and lecture course instructor
  • Record of interdisciplinary collaboration
  • Ability to obtain funded research
  • Professional experience

Chair of Instruction, Rank Open

As part of these exciting changes in the College of Architecture, we seek a Chair of Instruction at the positon of tenure-track or tenured associate or full professor to join our faculty.  The college values teaching excellence and expects the chair to be collectively and collaboratively responsible for advancing architectural pedagogy.

The Chair will have oversight of and provide leadership for the B.S (Arch) and M. Arch. programs. Duties include, but are not limited to, curriculum development, coordinating studio levels, faculty teaching assignments, and evaluating faculty teaching.  The chair is expected to provide leadership of the college’s academic and operational affairs, and to give creative support and direction in advancing the college’s goals and objectives. In fulfilling these responsibilities, the chair will work in close collaboration with both the college faculty and the Dean.

Candidates should demonstrate a record of distinction in academic leadership and a global perspective on architectural education.

Assistant or Associate Professor in Digital Design and Fabrication

Applicants for these positions should be accomplished designers able to teach undergraduate and graduate design studios in addition to required and elective coursework in their area of specialization including but not limited to beginning design, the history and theory of architecture, design and the environment, and contemporary urbanism.
