ASSISTANT PROFESSOR IN ARCHITECTURE, THE WENTWORTH INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY

Position Description

The School of Architecture and Design (SoAD) at Wentworth Institute of Technology invites applications for a full-time position in Architecture at the rank of Assistant Professor (though exceptional candidates at higher ranks may be considered) to begin in Fall 2026.

The successful candidate will contribute to a forward-looking design curriculum integrating advanced technologies and innovative tools into the design process. Responsibilities include teaching lecture courses, seminars, and design studios across the undergraduate and graduate programs.

The standard teaching load is up to 12 credit hours per semester (typically one 6-credit studio and one 4-credit seminar/lecture, or three 4-credit lecture courses). Coursework may include foundation-level courses in building construction, structures, and systems/technology, as well as more advanced upper-level seminars and lectures in areas such as digital design and fabrication, computational design, building performance analysis, and materials science. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to connect design thinking, technical expertise, and emerging tools within a studio-based, hands-on learning environment.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Collaborating with colleagues to develop and deliver integrated coursework
  • Pursuing a robust research and scholarship agenda
  • Advising and mentoring students
  • Contributing to service at the school, university, and community levels
  • Playing an essential role in launching the graduate program in design and developing new graduate certificates

Required Qualifications:

  • A terminal degree in architecture or a closely related discipline
  • Master’s degree
  • Potential to establish a clear research and scholarship agenda
  • Potential to excel in undergraduate and graduate teaching and mentorship
  • Teaching and research focus on advanced technologies and innovative tools that inform the design process
  • Experience teaching design studio or related courses

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A doctoral degree and/or professional licensure in architecture
  • Record of excellence in research and scholarship
  • Record of excellence in pedagogy and curriculum development
  • Record of excellence in professional practice
  • Record of transdisciplinary teaching and scholarship
  • Evidence of integrating design, technology, and research through scholarly and creative work
  • Expertise in one or more of the following areas: building construction, building systems and technology, structures, building performance analysis, digital design and fabrication, computational design, or materials science
  • Demonstrated flexibility in teaching to address diverse student needs and interests

Position Details

  • Salary: It is expected that the salary range for this position is between $89,042 and $102,686 (two-semester equivalent salary).

  • Retirement: 10% retirement contribution (no matching required) per the current Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Contract: Faculty contracts are for two semesters (fall and spring) with optional summer teaching, which is paid on a prorated basis. Annual compensation could reach 1.5 times the provided two-semester salary, depending on summer class availability.
