

Assistant Professor, Architecture (Building Technology/Structures & History and Theory)
Position Description
The School of Architecture is accepting applications for three full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professors specializing in building technology and/or architectural structures (2 positions) and specializing in the history of architecture and urbanism (1 position).
Qualifications
Required Qualifications for Building Technology/Structures (2 positions)
The successful candidate will demonstrate identified focus areas for scholarship, research, and/or practice in building technology and/or architectural structures. These may include normative and innovative structural systems, construction systems, material performance, and building systems integration. We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in contemporary technologies, computational design methods, artificial intelligence (AI), and/or interdisciplinary collaborations that advance the field of architectural structures and their role in building performance and design innovation.
Required Qualifications for History and Theory (1 position)
The successful candidate will have identified a clear area of expertise and a research agenda evidenced through publications and/or other forms of peer-to-peer or public dissemination. Preference will be given to candidates with a Ph.D. in the history of architecture, urbanism, the built environment, or a closely related field. Candidates should preferably have experience in teaching surveys and seminars that utilize global frameworks, critical methods, and interdisciplinary approaches and collaborations.
In addition, the ideal candidate will be expected to:
- Prepare students to be successful in academic and professional settings by helping them to develop critical thinking and design skills.
- Advance the School of Architecture’s research enterprise in topics that are critical to contemporary and future practice.
- Engage professional practice and industry partners in North Carolina and/or beyond.
- Seek collaborators within and across departments and colleges in the university.
Minimum Qualification
- Terminal Master’s Degree in Architecture
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional practice experience; teaching experience; post-professional degree, including a Ph.D. or Doctor degree.
- Professional licensure in Architecture.
