The C3.ai Digital Transformation Institute, a research consortium headquartered at UC Berkeley and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, aims to mobilize AI, machine learning and the Internet of Things to transform societal-scale systems.

The Institute recently selected 26 research proposals that advance Digital Transformation Science to mitigate COVID-19 and future pandemics. A total of $5.4 million in funding and access to the C3 AI Suite and Microsoft Azure computing and storage have been awarded in support of the projects.

Professor Karen Chapple, Chair of City and Regional Planning in the College of Environmental Design at UC Berkeley, is leading an interdisciplinary project to track housing evictions during and after the outbreak in an effort to better understand housing precarity and to inform public policy regarding U.S. housing inequality.
