The Energy Studies in Buildings Laboratory (ESBL) in the Department of Architecture at the University of Oregon conducts research on how buildings, related transportation and land use systems determine energy and resource use; develops new materials, components, assemblies, whole buildings, and communities with improved performance; consults and develops design tools; educates professionals and students; and collaborates with academia, government agencies, utilities and others. ESBL is led by new Director, Dr. Kevin Van Den Wymelenberg.
