Current energy conservation standards call for energy efficiency strategies which are typically adopted incrementally in buildings retrofit and design. However, there is no doubt about the importance of a holistic approach to turn the inter-related series of building design and operational challenges into new opportunities. The main aim of this Special Issue is to investigate insights of recent examples of holistic design in high-performance buildings to share insights and provide guidelines for new building paradigms.
