Title: Emerging Scholars Workshop (this will be open to EAAE student attendees in Europe)
Location: Robin and Doug Shore Innovation Center Room 2413
Kennesaw State University (Marietta Campus)
Chair: Nooshin Esmaeili, University of Calgary
Moderator: Nooshin Esmaeili, University of Calgary
Description: Graduate research in architecture involves more than producing scholarly work; it requires navigating evolving professional identities, communicating ideas effectively, and sustaining motivation and well-being over what can be a long and uncertain journey. This workshop creates an additional space for graduate researchers, PhD candidates, and emerging scholars to reflect on the lived experience of academic research while strengthening essential professional skills. This workshop integrates two complementary dimensions of scholarly development:
- Reflective dialogue on the graduate and doctoral research journey, including wellbeing, motivation, and scholarly identity.
- Practical exercises designed to strengthen presence, communication skills, and confidence when presenting ideas.
Through facilitated discussion and hands-on activities, participants explore how personal well-being, clarity of purpose, and effective communication are interconnected aspects of sustainable academic and professional life. By creating a supportive space for reflection, exchange, and skill-building, the workshop aims to foster a stronger sense of community among emerging scholars while equipping participants with strategies that can support both their academic work and future careers in research, academia, and practice.
