Position Description

The College of Architecture and Environmental Design (CAED) at Kent State University invites applications for two tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor positions. The college seeks outstanding scholars whose research and creative design work engage contemporary challenges in sustainability, performance, and the built environment.

1. Environmental/Ecological Systems and Architectural Design (Job #986096)

  • Focus: Expertise in passive/active environmental systems, building science, and building systems.
  • Teaching: Teach courses in environmental systems, building systems, and architectural design (studios, seminars, and lectures).

2. Architectural Building Technology and Design (Job #986097)

  • Focus: Expertise in building science, building systems, and materials.
  • Teaching: Teach courses in materials and methods, building systems, and architectural design (studios, seminars, and lectures).
  • Key Attribute: A commitment to architecture as a material practice and excellence in architectural design.

Shared Responsibilities: Candidates for both positions must demonstrate a clear and active research, scholarship, and/or creative practice agenda, with the ability to meaningfully integrate research and design inquiry into teaching.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education: An accredited Master of Architecture (M.Arch) degree (or equivalent); OR an accredited Bachelor of Architecture degree and Master of Science in Architecture (or related field).
  • Experience: Demonstrated teaching ability, professional/scholarly engagement, and innovative research and/or design practice.

About the College

The CAED fosters the integration of research and practice to address evolving environmental, societal, and technological challenges. Facilities include a branch library, lighting lab, Fabrication Lab (CNC, metal, wood), and the Robotically Augmented Design Lab (RadLAB). The college is located in the LEED Platinum John Elliot Center for Architecture and Design.
