We are delighted to announce the first National Workshop on Architectural Faculty in Environmental Sustainability Research (WAFES). This workshop is funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), and will be the first Workshop sponsored by the NSF developed specifically for Architectural Faculty. All workshop participants will be covered by a reimbursement of up to $1,000.
The Workshop program will 1) provide networking opportunities for Architectural faculty to have in-depth discussions on promoting an architectural research framework, with specific research parameters consistent with Architectural disciplines; 2) identify challenges and drawbacks that affect the career success of faculty researchers in Architecture and, also, limit involvement of Architectural students in art/design-integrated STEM research activity; and 3) explore potential cutting-edge Architectural research paradigms and topics in the environmental sustainability research field. The workshop will include four topical sessions:
- Human-Building Integration and Indoor Environmental Quality
- Building Façade/Material Design Environmental Performance
- Building Performance Assessment and Decision Support in Architectural Design Process and Methodology
- Landscape Architecture: Sustainable Urban/Landscape Design
This Workshop will be held at Ryerson University in Toronto, Canada, for two full days, on May 28 and 29, 2019. The workshop will be a pre-conference event of the Architectural Research Centers Consortium (ARCC) 2019 conference, hosted by Ryerson University from May 29 to June 1. ARCC is providing organizational support to the Workshop as a leading organization, dedicated to the expansion of architectural research culture. ARCC has supported architectural research activities by providing a New Researcher Award, Research Grant Program for junior faculty, as well as the King Research Medal Award for graduate students. All participants will have the opportunity to learn about those research programs throughout the Workshop, especially at the ARCC-invited reception. Workshop participants will also have the opportunity to register for the ARCC conference at a special reduced rate.
The workshop will be led by Professor Joon-Ho Choi, the University of Southern California, the project PI and ARCC board member. The workshop steering committee also includes Professors Hazem Rashed-Ali, The University of Texas at San Antonio and ARCC President; Simi Hoque, Drexel University; Jeffery Raven, New York Institute of Technology, and Douglas Holmes, Boston University.
We hope you can encourage your faculty to apply for this important event. Applications can be submitted online at the following website: https://www.conftool.net/arcc2019 .
