Position Description

The Department of Architecture at UC Berkeley invites applications for the Creedon Design Fellow, a one-year, non-tenure-track academic research and teaching appointment. This fellowship provides promising individuals early in their teaching careers an opportunity to pursue their academic and teaching interests.

  • Term: One year (commencing Fall 2027), with the possibility of a second-year extension depending on departmental needs.
  • Appointment Structure: Lecturer (50%) / Research Specialist (50%).
  • Early Career Definition: No more than five (5) years of prior teaching experience and no more than ten (10) years since the completion of the relevant graduate degree at the time of application.

Responsibilities:

  • Teaching: Teach three courses per academic year (two design studios and one seminar related to the Fellow’s research/creative work).
  • Research & Creative Work: Contribute to the College’s intellectual life by engaging in critical, theoretical, and/or creative work.
  • Presentation: Present the completed work through a public lecture and exhibition.

Qualifications

  • Basic Qualifications (Required at application): A Master’s degree (or equivalent international degree).
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • A Master’s Degree in Architecture (or a closely related field / equivalent international degree) at the time of application.
    • A demonstrated record of design excellence commensurate with experience.

Salary

Pay is based on the UC academic salary scales for the respective titles. Reasonable estimates are:

  • Lecturer (50%): $70,977 – $79,887
  • Specialist (50%): $67,900 – $76,500
