Architecture and Environmental Design

 

Opportunity: The College of Architecture and Environmental Design (CAED) invites qualified applicants for the position of Coordinator and Elliot Professor in the Health Care Design Program, composed of a master degree program and graduate certificate program located in Kent, Ohio beginning in August 2018 This position may be either non-tenure track or tenure track based on experience, qualifications and/or trajectory. The position will include both teaching and administrative duties.

The Master of Health Care Design (MHCD) prepares graduates to contribute significantly to firms offices that specialize in the design of health care facilities. In addition, it will prepare graduates to serve as administrators with responsibility for managing health care facilities and related positions in the health care industry. This degree is in addition to the Health Care Facilities Certificate offered by the College. Students admitted to the MHCD program should hold professional degrees in architecture, interior design, landscape architecture, or appropriate backgrounds in other design-related fields.

The program contributes to Kent State’s CAED through its mission to enhance graduate education. Opportunities exist for collaborating with programs in landscape architecture and focused research in environmental design. The program is housed in the new and award-winning Center for Architecture and Environmental Design, designed by Weiss/Manfredi and Richard L. Bowen & Assoc. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to guide and direct the new Master of Health Care Design degree program which blends architectural design with health care understanding, developed in collaboration with the Colleges of Nursing and Public Health. The successful candidate will teach in their area of expertise, and oversee the continuing development of the program. The successful candidate must be able to communicate effectively across the fields of scholarly inquiry which contribute to health care design, participate in the scholarly life of the CAED, and coordinate efforts with different colleges and universities. Recruitment of students, encouragement of research, securing adjunct faculty, and communication with health care design firms, agencies and institutions are key metrics for success.

Required Qualifications: Possess a terminal degree in the area of expertise, or the equivalent level of experience; Minimum five (5) years of experience working in health care design as a designer, administrator, or researcher; Demonstrated ability to teach effectively within a curriculum which employs Evidence-Based Design principles;

Preferred Qualifications: Licensure in an appropriate professional field with a terminal degree; Demonstrated administrative skills and leadership in an academic setting; Evidence of professional or scholarly achievement.

Application Process: The position is a nine-month appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor. Salary is competitive and negotiable. The anticipated starting date is August, 2018. Review of candidates will begin February 15, 2018.
