Remembering Branko Kolarevic: Visionary Educator and Supporter of ARCC

It is with great sadness that the Architectural Research Centers Consortium (ARCC) shares the passing of Branko Kolarevic, a generous colleague, trusted friend, and long-standing supporter of our organization. Branko died on January 29, 2026 surrounded by his family.

Born in Čačak, Serbia, in 1963, Branko studied architecture in Belgrade before coming to the United States in 1988 as a Fulbright Scholar to pursue Computer Aided Design at Harvard. Over an international career spanning Europe, Asia, Canada, and the United States, he influenced generations of students and colleagues with his clarity, intellectual precision, and remarkable ability to make complex ideas accessible.

A pioneering voice in digital architecture, his landmark book Architecture in the Digital Age: Design and Manufacturing helped frame the discipline’s engagement with computation and fabrication. He authored and co-authored numerous influential publications advancing architecture’s integration with digital technology.

Branko’s leadership shaped architectural education broadly. He served as President of ACSA, President of ACADIA, President of the Canadian Architectural Certification Board, and later as Dean of the Hillier College of Architecture and Design at NJIT.

Branko was a force—thoughtful, determined, and deeply committed to education. His impact on architectural research and academic leadership will continue to resonate across our community. Read his full obituary here.
