UTSA Opens Call for Inaugural Director of the New School of Architecture + Planning (SA+P)

The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) seeks an exceptional candidate to become the inaugural Director for the new School of Architecture + Planning (SA+P). The successful candidate must demonstrate a record of excellence, meriting tenure at the associate or full professor rank and may be considered for the Roland K. Blumberg Endowed Professor in Architecture. Tenure is contingent upon Board of Regents approval. This is a unique opportunity for an accomplished and visionary candidate to provide excellent collaborative leadership for the new SA+P.

The SA+P is firmly committed to address the discipline’s multiple challenges, including diversity and inclusion, social equity, environmental sustainability, and public health and safety. The successful candidate is expected to advance a vibrant academic culture that promotes learning, exploration, innovation, and transdisciplinary research while preparing graduates to become tomorrow’s leaders in an increasingly complex global workforce.

The new Director will be responsible for recruiting and fostering academic growth in research and professional development; promoting and marketing the programs regionally, nationally, and internationally; administering curricula and multiple degree offerings; managing physical and financial resources; overseeing departmental governance; maintaining and strengthening relationships with the local and regional professional communities; creating support structures for faculty at various ranks, particularly junior faculty; and working with the Dean’s office to foster development activities. The Director will teach one course per year and advance creative activities, research, innovation, and engagement by increasing multidisciplinary, collaborative, and funded research expenditures. The Director reports directly to and serves at the pleasure of the Dean for CEID.
