The School of Architecture & Design at the Lebanese American University invites applications for the position of Chair of the Department of Architecture & Interior Design, starting in Fall 2017. The School operates on two campuses in Beirut and Byblos. The Chair is located in Byblos, reports to the Dean of the School and is responsible for the management of the whole department, which includes faculty teaching in architecture and interior design.

The position requires a dynamic and innovative leader with experience in administration, teaching, and practice, and with a vision on how to invigorate the programs within his/her department. The Chair of the Department will be responsible for enhancing the academic standards of the programs, managing human and physical resources, as well as assisting the school dean in promoting the programs at national and international levels. The Chair is also expected to initiate departmental activities within the school and the community at large, and contribute to strategic planning.

The ideal candidate should possess leadership and communication skills, a record of administrative experience, in addition to teaching and research. The chairmanship is normally a 3-year term, but the contract is made on a yearly basis, renewed upon mutual satisfaction and based on the continuing support of the faculty. In the event of non-renewal of the Chair position, the candidate would return to the rank of Associate Professor and teach the regular load at that rank. The Chair carries a 12 credit/year teaching load.

Candidates to this post must have a minimum of a master’s degree in one of the fields within the department, a minimum of 6 years teaching experience, in addition to administrative experience. The candidate should be at the Associate Professor level or above.
